Six Secrets To Your Blog Success

A few more of my clients ask the question, “What else is so great about blogging?”

Here are key reasons why some marketers are turning to blogs and why, if you’re a small business owner, you should too:

  1. Takes about 2 minutes when you’re inspired. An idea pops into your head. Or you see a great digital photo opportunity - click - grab them both. Now using word processing skills, and pretty much from anywhere in the world, you can sit down and write a short (or long) blurb about what you just experienced. Blogs can also be created and updated by going directly to the blog page on your website. Because blogs are so easily updated, they encourage you to immediately share your ideas, tips or observations on current writing, design and marketing challenges.
  2. Build relationships with anyone from anywhere. Blogs are viewed worldwide and invite readers to comment. You can allow your reader comments to appear immediately, or you can delay their posting until you have approved them. (I suggest approve and here’s why. You can get spam and gobblygook posted - so approving first gives you the opportunity to delete them first.
  3. Here’s that mysterious SEO acronym: Search engine optimization. Each blog post you add becomes automatically an opportunity to be noticed by the search engines. This is especially true if the worldwide topics of your blog postings contain keywords and descriptions your readers are searching for. In minutes, you can set up your blog to automatically notify search engines and blog portals every time you update your blog.
  4. RSS - Real Simple Syndication. The next time you look at a blog posting, notice the fancy orange inverted megaphone type symbol on the page. Look up - see the one up here? That’s your cue cue to click on it and become notified each time I write a new post. And you must rain your readers to use yours. In this way, your readers know when you have great news without you wearing out your welcome. In many cases, a daily email — or even two emails a week — might be too much for many of your clients and prospects, no matter how valuable the information. RSS, then becomes invaluable - educate them to click on the icon and the RSS system will automatically deliver all of your latest postings to your clients and prospects when they are ready to review them.
  5. Ahh - Relationships - if you’re in the market of course. You now have a method of keeping in touch with your readers. What’s more, your blog encourages other authorities and opinion leaders in your field to comment on your postings, and you can easily promote your blog by commenting on topics that appear on other blogs.
  6. Picture and content perfect. Blogs are “format friendly.” There are options - ask your web designer or host - or simpley go to www.blogspot.com and build your own. Or www.wordpress.com is free as well. You can easily include photographs within your blog, as well as links to audio and video files that can be automatically delivered — via RSS feeds — to clients and prospects.
